Why do some cavities hurt?!
Question:
Why do some cavities hurt?
I had a cleaning appt the other day and they found a cavity. When they put the pick in it, it hurt. Why? I'm terrified when I get it filled it will hurt terribly, with the drill and all. I will get the laughing gas, but is there anything else I can do to aleviate the pain I'm expecting to have when it gets filled?
Answers:
When you get the tooth filled, the dentist will numb you up first with Lidocaine. If the anesthetic is administered correctly, It should not be painful while you are getting the filling.
It hurt when they used the explorer to find the cavity during your cleaning, because you weren't given an anesthetic for that.
You might feel some sensitivity after the anesthetic wears off, but that's temporary (goes away after a few days or weeks, or no sensitivity at all).
Hope this helps, and good luck.
