I get filling done by dentist this morning. but now my tooth hurting very bad. w!

Question: in 1992 i had a cavity and a dentist filled the cavity. However now in 2008, that filling was coming off. So the dentist said, that a new filling is due now.

I had very good teeth -- never got any cavity from 1993 to 2007. And all dental xrays showed good results.

I tell dentist that my teeth feel okay so i don't feel like as if new filling is needed now.

But he said, its necessary or new cavity would develop, since the 1992 filling was coming off.

So i get filling done this morning. However, after 6 to 7 hours my tooth where filling was done is hurting me very bad.

I don't have health insurance and paid for filling out of pocket.

The 1992 dentist was different and this one is different. Please tell me why i feel pain in tooth, after new filling is done?

What to do now?

The new white, composite fills often cause sensitivity. Take some ibuprofen or aleve. Keep taking it through tomorrow. Also, use a sensitivity toothpaste. Try to brush it on, spit, do not rinse/eat/drink for at least 30 minutes. If the sensitivity does not go away/get better within 1 week get an appointment to have it rechecked. It could be high and need to be drilled down some more b/c you are biting on it too hard or it could be something else. Usually sensitivity and temporary though.

It always hurts for about 3 to 5 days after you get a cavaity filled. It's amazing how you go in without pain, but come home WITH Pain. Don't worry, just take some tylenol, and try an ice-pack. It will go away within a weeks time.

Clove oil is the best home remedy for toothaches. Even dentists use it. I found the information at http://aches.in/toothacheremedies.html useful
