Can I get a gold tooth cap on NHS?!

Question: I'm 17, in full time education. I've had a HUGE silver filling on one of my back teeth for about 5 years. The filling hs been gradually wearing away, and I'm pretty sure that they can't drill the tooth anymore. I hardly ever eat on that side of my mouth cos it feels uncomfortable. I'm not in any pain. I went to a dentist and he said he wouldn't do it until I'm 18, but I think that's just cos then I'll be too old to get it done on NHS in his practice.

Am I ellegible to get this done on the NHS or do I need to bend the truth? If so, what should I say?

Thanks for any helpful answers!

Make sure you get a check up/ exam appointment before you are 18 and all treatment on that course will be free, you dont say if you are in scotland or england, i work in scotland so i can advise on our regulations.

Discuss this with your dentist to see if a crown on the tooth would benefit you, it makes no difference to them if you pay for treatment or not, as when under 18 the nhs will pay 100% for you and after 18 they pay 20% with you paying the other 80% so your dentist gets paid the exact same fee.

You wont get a white coloured crown on the NHS if it is a back molar tooth, as NHS stopped providing these a few years ago, they will supply a gold or silver coloured on as white was seen as purely cosmetic. metal is sufficiant for function. If you want a white one this must be done privately which the dentist would advise you of his charge can be
