Pregnancy and Wisdom Teeth Extraction?!

Question: Is it okay to get your wisdom teeth pulled while pregnant?

I'm not pregnant right now, but my husband and I are TTC and I do need to get my wisdom teeth pulled sometime soon....before the end of the year.

Would I (if I do conceive between now and the end of the year if we don't stop trying) be able to opt for sedation or would I have no choice but to get local anesthesia? Since I'd prefer to be "asleep" during the procedure, would it be best to postpone a pregnancy until I've had the surgery?

It depends on which trimester you are in AND your dentists. Some won't work on pregnant women at all. But the truth is, pregnant women need dental help, too. There are alternatives to Novocaine that are safer for pregnant women and there unborn child. But to be on the safe side, do it now before getting pregnant.

Talk to your doctor about this. Unlike the general population of Yahoo Answers, they're actually trained to handle this situation.

when i was pregnant my dentist would not do anything other than clean them and generally look after them. You get lots of problems with your teeth when pregnant which is why we get free dentistry...get it done now and out of the way cause they may cause you pain when expecting!

Hi! I've been in dentistry for over 20 years. We do not do general anesthesia on any pregnant patient. And it is NOT recommended. If you have a problem with the wisdom teeth get it done now and NOT when you are pregnant. I will not work on any female who is pregnant or is trying unless I have to and then it is just the bare minium. Why risk it? The sedation does effect the baby and Nitrous is notorious for causing abortions. Play it safe, speak to YOUR doctor and make a good decision not. ~M

better go to dentist now before pregnancy,so you are clean of any infectious when you conceive.

I know that they won't sedate you at all and they will just clean them when you are pregnant. That could cause harm to the fetus. They ask you your last period and do everything to make sure you not pregnant.
