I'm getting all four of my wisdom teeth pulled soon, what to expect?!

Question: I chose to just have all four teeth deadened (instead of laughing gas or an iv to put me to sleep). Will that work well enough? How painful is it with them just being deadened? Do they bleed a lot afterwards? How bad does it hurt during and after the whole thing? I have to get them removed so they don't mess up my teeth after getting braces. Information would be great and whoever is the most helpful will get 10 points!

Take a deep breath and RELAX. This is one of those things where the anticipation is sooooo much worse than the actual procedure. Like you, I opted for a local numbing instead of being put to sleep. I can describe it as being CREEPY rather than painful because you can feel the pressure of the dentist pulling it out but there isn't any pain. You will have some moderate bleeding and when you get home the numbness with subside and you will be sore. The doc will prescribe some pain killers to manage the soreness and give you a list of things you can/cannot eat. Try to get plenty of rest for the next week or so. Rememeber it will all be worth it in the end.
Best of luck!!!

OMG.. You are in for a lot of pain for a few days. Good luck.

i had my bottom 2 removed but i was put to sleep, not as bad as it seems at all but the swollen face is monsterious! taking the pain pills BEFORE any actual pain will help a lot.

You will have some discomfort and four big holes. Follow the dentist's instructions to the T so that you don't end up with dry sockets as they can be very painful. I had two on one side done and then the two on the other side done without any problems at all. And let me tell you the dentists hates to see me come as he knows I am a big baby when it comes to dental work.

I have had that experience of pulling 4 teeth as well. You shouldn't feel scared but positive. Make sure you eat before the procedure begins because once your teeth comes out, it bleeds quickly. The pain of pulling the tooth is severe but afterwards the pain goes away.

LOL liar

its not that painful like i had a back tooth removed via laughing gas like i inhaled The gas and i remember the guy walking over and that's it I'm standing up its sort of like a distant memory a blur now The taking out didn't hurt (due 2 the gas BUT

it will throb for a few days you know like if you bang your knee or hit your toe and it throbs just like that and it will bleed until it heals the throbbing pain will stop in a few days and the bleeding then it will take about another week or so for the skin to form and heal over it

Well, I will assume that your teeth are fully erupted and not impacted if you are not being put to sleep. Getting them all at once is fine, you will just have to hold your mouth open for a while and be VERY numb. So, don't bite yourself. It will be very hard to swallow for a while b/c of the numbness, so eat before you go. Shouldn't be too much pain, but lots of pressure is possible during the extractions. They usually bleed for about 1 hour. If these teeth are not erupted, you are crazy.

First, I would recommend seeing an oral surgeon and having IV sedation. I had all 4 surgically removed and stitched by IV sedation two months before my wedding. I had minimal swelling and pain. Didn't need any pain meds other than a few tylonal. It wasn't bad at all. I wasn't brave enough to just have my general dentist deaden them. I was in Dental Hygiene school at the time and I had learned about the things that can go wrong during extraction of your 3 molars or wisdom teeth. I didn't want to risk losing feeling in my lower jaw. 3 of my teeth had not come in yet. If yours are fully in then it may be ok to have them just exctracted. You will bleed a lot afterwards for a day or two. They will have you bite on guaze to help stop it. I had some bleeding even with stitches. You shouldn't feel any pain in the teeth if your dentist numbs them correctly however you will hear all of the sounds and feel the pressure and pulling. I knew I couldn't stand that. I was eating solid food in about 3 days. I had an irrigation device to flush the areas because I could brush back there until the stitches were out. Many people have horror stories about this but remember there are just as many that didn't have a bad experience. Best wishes!!!!

Oooooo, your cheeks are gonna puff up, and look swollen, and you are going to be in pain for 2 weeks, is what my bro. told me.

I would choose IV, I snoozed like a baby. Didn't feel a thing, you should get the IV instead or anything else.

it's not that bed.....its not as bad and painful as you've heard from others. I got 2 pulled before and it is not a big deal at all. it hurts alittle and you can't eat or drink for 30 minutes, then for a few days to a week, you'll feel weird, but after 1-2 weeks...you'll be fine again, trust me

My sister had all of them removed & she told me she was in bed for a few days. I only had 1 taken out & it was a nightmare so imagine all 4. I hope it goes well for you & i wish u the very best of luck. Wishing u the best.
