Halcion for a root canal - I'm Terrified?!
Question: I am scheduled to have a root canal completed tomorrow morning. It's only half way finished because the pain the first time was excruciating. From what the dentist told me, despite 4 or 5 novocaine shots and a healthy dose of nitrous oxide I kept burning off the painkillers. I felt an extreme pain which I can only describe as white hot and blindingly exruciating.
The dentist prescribed for me some halcion for the next appointment to calm me down and hopefully finish the procedure. I am terrified that I'll still be able to feel everything and it will be a hugely painful experience once again.
Anyone had any experience with "sedation dentistry" personally? Does it work well for someone who has an incredibly intense fear of the drill like I do now?
(Oddly enough I always enjoyed my dental appointments before this particular one... )

God, I was just thinking about Halcion. I have to finish my bottom teeth, which is a cap and a bridge...then I have the top to work on, which is 3 cavaties and a root canal...then I'm finally through...God, just getting there is terrifying isn't it?
The halcion works wonders, let me tell you. If you are the biggest chicken in the world, this drug is for you!
I can't swallow pills, so my dentist gives me a liquid, equivalant to 3 teaspoons. 2 in the chair, and one 1/2 hour later. It does make you sleepy, but it's also feels as though your mind is closed to anything that is around you.
My first time on Halcion I was sitting in the chair, and they turned on Judge Judy. And then BAM, I don't remember a thing after that. I was just "Home", and I didn't even remember getting there! I had survived a 21/2 hour appointment!! I have taken it twice already, and will take it two more times, I imagine. I LOVE IT, and I wouldn't go without it.
