Oral surgeons usually only undertake patients that are in need of oral surgery. The best thing to do for a cleaning and check up would be to go to your dentist and have the hygienist clean your teeth so that the dentist can have a good, through look at your teeth and they can refer you from there to an oral surgeon and/or any other specialists you may need.

General Dentist for the exam/ cleaning.
Oral Surgeons typically specialize in just oral surgery.

a normal one. consider cosmetic dentistry if your teeth are yellow and mangled

General dentists, or the hygienists that work for them, will give you a thorough cleaning, an exam, and take some xrays to see if there are any cavities in-between your teeth that can't been seen clinically.... if you need your wisdom teeth removed, you'll be referred to an oral surgeon. Some general dentists do extract wisdom teeth if they're erupted, but if they're impacted, you're better off at the hands of an oral surgeon.

:)

general DDS usually has hygienist, perhaps OS does, too ASK

General dentistry. Find out what other procedures they do at the office too. That way when or if you need something done someday you can opt to have it done at the same office.

No oral surgeons do not do general cleanings. First of all most dentists do not do cleanings at all. They hire licensed dental HYGIENISTS to do the cleanings. You have to go to a general dentist office or a dental hygiene clinic for cleanings and check ups.
