What kind of tooth brush to get when u have braces?!

Question:

What kind of tooth brush to get when u have braces?

Ok so I am getting braces in less than two weeks and I have heard that you are suppose to get a certain kind of tooth brush. Is this true, or can I just use my regular colgate tooth brush? My friends all have these electric ones and they say that is what they have to use. If I do have to get one of these what kind should I get and how much does it cost?

Answers:

It's called a proxy brush, or interdental brush. It is a brush that has a soft, thin, flexible brush head that can get behind the brace. It isn't required, but helps dislodge the food that gets stuck (since with braces, food will always get stuck, no matter what the food is).

Electric or manual - always debated. I personally stick to a manual toothbrush, and have been fine, my ortho has given no complaints about my oral hygiene. I have no idea how much electric toothbrushes cost, but it won't be very much at all.
