I think it's very rare. The dentist should run tests beforehand, to make sure that your wife is physically healthy to undergo surgery. If the test results come back, and she's healthy, it's not very likely that anything will go wrong under general anesthesia.

The one thing that is important is that she follow post-op instructions very carefully, because she might develop a "dry socket" following surgery, and that is VERY painful.
(But again, that's not very likely to happen either).

Good luck!

I can't say for sure but I would imagine very low. The doctors no matter what you're going under anaesthetia you are going under they must warn you of the "worst case scenarios" My just had a baby via c-section and we had to hear all about those things too,

anaesthesia is just to make you sleep not to kill you-rest it depends on dose

I don't know, but I'm 30 and I've never heard of anyone dying during that operation. I DID here of a lady in FL dying during a boob job. I also heard that infection is more of a concern than dying during surgery. But, I never heard of anyone getting infected from wisdom teeth surgery, just the other parts of the body.

My dentist also gave me a list of possible things that could go wrong before I had my wisdom teeth pulled. I too was apprehensive and a little freaked. I had the operation done just a few days ago, having three wisdom teeth pulled, and I feel fine. I chose to be asleep during the operation. Very simple, I went in they put an I.V in my arm which hurt a little, and then had me breath in the sleeping gas, which was quick. When I woke up I was a little woozy, but my mom was there to take me home. I definitely made it more scary than it was going to be. For a minor operation such as tooth extraction your wife shouldn't be worried too much. After all, dentists for their own liability need to inform patients about these things just as they need them to sign waviers and such. All in all, as long as you're confident in the oral surgeon then things should go just fine.

I'm sure she'll be fine. I had General Anethesia twice to take my wisdom teeth out, and it was all fine, I was just very tired after the fact. Nice of the dentist to scare your wife, eh?

very low. However you can ask to not have general at all. You can ask to have only local ane. and be awake during the whole thing.
