Should I pay $600 to my dentist get deep cleaning?!

Question:

Should I pay $600 to my dentist get deep cleaning?

I haven’t had a check up on my teeth in over a year and I’ve always brushed and floss my teeth. I went to see a new dentist and she recommends I should get a deep cleaning done on my teeth. This procedure cost $600 and it’s not covered by insurance. I’ve always had just the basic cleaning done and I never experience any pain in my teeth or gums. She was telling me if I don’t get it done, my gums are going to get infected. I want to have good oral hygiene but I don’t want to pay $600 to have my teeth cleaned. Can anyone tell me if “deep teeth cleaning” is really necessary? Can your teeth be “ok” just with basic cleaning, that is covered by insurance?

Answers:

i think you should go to another dentist and get a second opinion or call around to see if you can get the same procedure done by someone else cheaper...that does sound like alot of money...
