It's not a big deal. When I had mine out, I was just sitting in the chair looking around while they put me under; and all of a sudden, without being at all aware of any time passing (almost like I time traveled; pretty cool), they told me they were done. I was just like, "you're joking right...?"
"Nope, that's it. Be careful when you stand up, your legs are probably asleep."
It took me one day of small naps to get back to 100% (except for the sores in the back of my mouth, which weren't all that bad). It's a piece of cake.

I got my wisdom teeth out at your age, and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. They put you to sleep, and before you know it, it is over- after that, you're practically passed out for the rest of the day (at least I was). And they give you pain medication, in case you have pain, of course. It didn't hurt me bad at all afterwards, I thought being numb all day was the most annoying part. But you heal quickly- no big deal!

i was scared when i had mine done but it wasn't that bad. set an alarm clock so you don't forget to take your meds and you'll be ok.

When I got my wisdom teeth out they put me completely under, so I didn't feel a thing. What was also nice was that they gave me laughing gas before they put me under, so I hardly felt the shot. Getting the shot didn't phase me at all soley because of the laughing gas, too...I'm typically terrified of them (I have a huge phobia of needles).

If this is how it goes for you (and you should be able to request this), you should be fine.

First of all, you don't need to stay up late - the drugs they give you are plenty...you fall asleep while counting or doing the abc's or something and BAM! you're out.

Secondly, you're right. Being young, it won't be as bad. Be thankful that you're getting it out of the way now. I had mine done at 23 and Yowza! that sucked. I had all kinds of issues that I wouldn't have dealt with if I'd done it at your age. So...enjoy! You'll likely deal with chipmunk cheeks and popsicles for a few days.

Dont worry. It is actually a simple procedure. They ll inject u in your mouth, not on ur arm. The whole procedure is doin under anesthetia So u dont get any pain .If u ve pain during the procedure u should tell ur `Dr` i ve pain. U ll get little discomfort after the procedure. If u follow the instructions correctly there wont be any discomfort. Use warm saline rinse after 24hrs of extraction for 1wk. Take antibiotics and pain killers in time. After 24hrs of extraction try to open the mouth as possible. Dont hesitate to do that.

Don't worry. I had my wisdom teeth pulled under local anesthetic and I had no pain after the surgery! The only downside was that my cheeks were puffy and I looked like a squirrel for a couple of days. Just try to look away and not think when you get the shot and from there you will be able to relax and get it over with. At least it's a surgery you will only need to get once in a lifetime. :)

WHY are you having your wisdom teeth pulled? Is there a problem? Cavities? Are they throwing your other teeth out of alignment?

If there's a problem, then have the offending teeth pulled. But if there's no problem, don't do it. There are many dentists that advocate pulling wisdom teeth, even if they are not causing a problem. I'm 57, I go to the dentist every 6 months for cleaning and checkups, brush, etc, and have had only 1 tooth pulled -- one wisdom tooth that was pulled with I was about 51 or 52 years old because it had a cavity and could not be drilled and filled. My mother had her wisdom teeth until she was in her 50's.

Again, if there's a problem, have the teeth pulled. But I don't believe in pulling teeth just for the sake of pulling teeth -- or because a dentist has a theory that you don't need them. You wouldn't have your appendix removed just because it doesn't serve a useful purpose, so why pull teeth that aren't a problem.

By the way, when I had the one tooth pulled, I didn't know the doc was going to pull it. I thought he would fill it, but when he looked at it again, he told me it would be better to pull it. I was on my lunch break from work, and was terrified! He suggested rescheduling the appointment so I would be prepared. I told him that if I left, I would not come back to have it pulled so he'd better do it while I was there. First, he gave me a Tylenol. Then novacane, and he pulled the tooth. I didn't feel anything and I drove back to work. I had to -- I was driving the carpool that day. I had no pain, no problems whatsoever. When I told someone that I had a tooth pulled during lunch, they didn't believe me because I wasn't in pain and there was no swelling.

I just had all four of my wisdom teeth pulled yesterday morning. I am 28 years old and have had problems with them for years. Every six months or so, they would grow in a little more and the surrounding gum tissue would get infected. The surgery didnt hurt at all, I did not feel a thing! The episodes with my infected gums hurt a lot more than the recovery so far. I am still in bed, feeling better today.
Here are my tips:
-take your pain meds ASAP when you get home. Take them while your face is still numb, before it starts to hurt.
-make a bunch of jello the day before your surgery, get some campbells creamy chicken soup, you will need to eat. Dont get tomato soup, it will sting
-keep a trash can, a spit cup and a box of tissues by your bed. You may be nautious from swallowing blood during the surgery. You should spit often to keep from swallowing more blood.

You will be ok, I was totally scared but its not that bad.
