Braces Problem...?!

Question: Hi
I just got my braces fit today but there are a few problems.
Firstly, I have an overbite, so the braces affect how I eat. The molars at the back don't seem to touch each other...there's around about a 2mm gap...will this close up eventually?

Secondly, the metal is scrapping on my tongue and it's unbearable!! The cheeks are feeling fine at the moment. Do I just put dental wax near the tongue? Will this feeling of being scraped on the sides of my tongue go away?

Thanks in advnace

The lips, cheeks and tongue will get used to the braces being there. These tissues will toughen up and not be sore. In the meantime, use your relief wax, roll it up in little balls like gum, and push it on the braces. Use gobs of it so that it covers anything that is rubbing and you can't feel the metal anymore.

If it is scraping your tongue, there may be cleats on the tongue-side of the bands. If this is the case and the wax won't stay on these, then you should go into the office. If I use bands with cleats, I usually will put an elastic around it to protect the tongue and just take the elastic off when I need to use the cleats (for elastics).

Your teeth will shift very quickly in the initial period. I'm sure you are feeling it right now--a lot! You will be able to bite down soon and your bite will be changing the whole time during your braces.

In the meantime, take Tylenol or Advil, whichever you would usually use for pain, and you can use some topical anaesthetic such as T-Gel, Anbesol, Orabase or Ora-gel and apply it with a cue-tip to the sore tissues.

yes, every thing will get ok, that is normal wat u feel, it is just the few next days.....
but i wish before u do anything just ask ur dentist, he knows more about ur case... but from my chair here i can just tell u that u'll be fine next few days...
wish u will have the best results with ur braces
