Do we really need floss?!

Question: I've never flossed in my life and my dentist says my teeth and gums are perfectly healthy. I brush and use mouthwash. I'm only asking because I've been reading some pretty scary stuff about what happens when you don't floss, but... it hasn't happened.

How are my teeth and gums doing so well if I've never flossed?

And it's hurtful to the environment, don't you think? All that minty string...

While you are young, you can get away without flossing as long as you are not cavity prone. As you age, you will become more and more prone to gum disease which not only leads to bone loss and need for corrective surgery, but also nasty breath. While you are young, try flossing 3 times per week. That will help keep the gum disease away.
And yes, it's hurtful to the bad environment that's getting established there. If you have bleeding, that's a sure sign that there is low grade infection. Your gums should not bleed when flossed.

I don't floss all the time, like only every other day because to me that isn't so important

No, i havent flossed in my life and my teeth are fine.

they say Listerine is as affective as floss is

not really. I think i use it once a year.

well some people need it. i do. maybe because of the way i eat.. or the way my teeth are positioned.. i dont know..
i guess you dont need them if your dentist says your teeth are fine..
and btw.. i think floss can be recycled.. like plastic

to prevent tartar.. and to get rid of residue due to eating like meat that stuck between your teeth.

You should be flossing. If you were to only floss or only brush for the rest of your life, you would want to floss. Your gums is where all of the bacteria in your mouth lives and hides and unless you floss, it's staying there and reproducing to cause gingivitis.

Some people get lucky and have a great immunity to oral bacteria, myself included. But don't expect it to last forever.

I LOVE FLOSSING
TRY IT

you can use those sticks that already has the string on , its fun to floss that way

It hasn't happened because you're to young for it to happen yet. Your teeth are healthy now but over time you're going to wish you had flossed...like when you're 60 and your teeth are falling out you're going to wish you flossed when you were younger. Read the research and you'll find that if you don't floss, over time you'll most likely lose teeth or develop some type of disease.

Also mouth wash is just a temporary breath freshener. It doesn't floss your teeth anymore than drinking a glass of water.

Floss help you clean your teeth. It remove all the food that is left behind on your mouth. The floss help by pull those food that is stick to your teeth. It is very important to do that everyday when you done eating. That's what my dentist told me.

It is better u floss. Flossing is the best way to remove food particles (meat stuff) from the interdental area. This area is not be cleaned by tooth brushing. The problem is if u dont clean the interdental area (area between two teeth) food accumulates there and slowly cavity or caries formed there. U cant see that cavity from outside. It can see only by radiograph. U know that only after when u get pain. U will surprised why i got pain for a normal tooth.

TRY USING A WATERPIK OR HYDR FLOSS RATHER THAN THE STRING PRODUCTS.

If you brush nicely and regularly I guess skipping the floss part is okay. Some people just have good genes. Like me.
