Question:

What if you were to just ignore the dentist's suggestion to....?

Remove your wisdom teeth? Stupid question I know, and no I probably won't be doing this because i'm setting up my appointment for the removal to take place next month. But what happens if you just leave your wisdom teeth in place regardless of them being impacted and just took real good care of your teeth instead?

Answers:

You will have a timebomb in your mouth, that's what. Eventually they will crowd all the other teeth and shift them, and they will remain a potential source of life threatening infection. Surgury to remove inpacted, infected wisdom teeth is absolutely awful. You have to live in the pain while the antibiotics taken full effect, and then have the surgery done. Having them removed before they become a problem is a lot simplier and easier to recover from. And if they are not completely in place, they probably haven't developed full roots yet. That makes them easier to remove as well. Once they come in, they form roots into the jawbone, and it's harder to get them out. So the sooner it's done, the better. Yeah, there are folks that opt not to have them out, and some get away with it. But not many. Most end up getting it done in the end because they get infected. By then the teeth have also shifted, and you are looking at an orthodontist bill to have the braces to correct that. It's really not worth it to chance it. Just have them out and be done with it. Why chance trouble when you can avoid it?
