Can any dentist or anyone who knows about teeth and gums help me out?!

Question:

Can any dentist or anyone who knows about teeth and gums help me out?

I had an implant put in. It was successful. I have the crown now and it looks great but the thing is, because I lost my tooth (I lost a bone), the gums have receded. The gums above my crown are higher up than the rest of my teeth and it looks weird to me.

I don't want to "even out" the problem by recontouring the rest of my gums.

So question is, can I have a gum graft (a tissue graft or whatever else the term would be) over the crown?

My prosthodontist said it would be difficult and there would be a chance of scarring.
A periodontist I went to said it would be difficult but possible.
Another peridontist I went to said it was impossible.

Anybody know? Even just opinions or stories of maybe people you know and all that.

* And yes, I will be going to another dentist to see what can be done. I'm just posting this question here in the hopes that someone may know and can relieve my current state of anxiety.

Answers:

It is possible but unlikely to be successful. You cannot graft tissue onto an implant because since is is a foreign body there is no blood supply present to support the new tissues. If you had a successful bone graft then the tissue graft it may work, but the location of the crown may prevent bone grafting from being possible. Unfortunately these are things that should have been considered prior to the placement of the implant itself. Ideally, bone grafting and tissue adaption should have been done after extraction but before implant placement.
On a side note, my mother had the exact same problem and after trying some perio treatment, the implant still looks terrible but she lives with it. I hate to say it, but you are pretty much stuck.
