How do you go about getting your dental records?!
Question: I want to go to a diff. office, don't like my dentist, I want all my file info.. what are my rights? can I just walk in and get them?

Hi! I've been in dentistry for over 20 years. I usually send the records out to another dentist. Fortunately most of the time it is because they moved away. I do not put them in the patients hands unless they sign a release form and acknowledge lose or damage is not replaceable. Copies of all chart notes and xrays should be provided for you. Not to worry, it happens all the time. Call ahead so that they can have the copies for you. ~M
In most places your new dentist can get hold of your records from your old dentist automatically.
Just go to your dentist office and tell them that you need a copy of your records. They will ask you to sign a release form and get your papers ready. There may be a charge and you may need to wait a while for them to be ready.

You do NOT need your dental records. Just go to a new dentist and they will start a new record. If you still want the records you must call your old dentist and go in and request copies (they have to keep them on file but can give you copies). They will probably CHARGE You money to make copies which is their legal right. When i changed dentists i didnt bother to get my old records. You dont need them.
