What causes this problem?!

Question: My cousin has bad breath all the time. So we decided to take him to the dentist. His teeth were all healthy and well taken care of. We also acknowledge that he brushes his teeth reasonably ( Two or Three times a day).

His teeth are also beautiful, and his tongue is always clean. Unfortunately, he dribbles a lot, which means his mouth-water keeps running from his mouth ONLY when sleeping. Then his mouth-water would smell very bad in the morning that he has to change his sheet or pillow-case.

What could be causing this problem? Does anyone have experience about this issue? It is pretty sad.

What did the dentist have to say about this issue?

Studying to be a dental student myself I would tell you that there is a ton of bacteria in the human mouth. Bacteria smells bad, hence the unpleasant odor from his mouth water (saliva I'm assuming). One way to reduce this problem may be to rinse the mouth or gargle with salt water or mouth wash prior to sleeping. These things will help reduce the number of bacteria in the mouth so that the odor isn't as strong.

Other things that could cause this would be a decaying tooth, gum infection, or possibly even an infection in the throat. I find it very unlikely that the dentist would have missed any of these things if you mentioned the problem to them.

Sorry I cannot be of more assistance. Hopefully that helps.

well drooling in ur sleep is normal, to tell you the truth it happens to me all the time, there's no way you can stop it and just make sure he changes his pillow case

Gingivitis its a problem that develops by the bacteria in your mouth also things you eat. It cant really be helped some tooth pastes say they can but im not sure. It dosent mean he's dirty or anything .

i think your cousin took water or fluid in less quantities. your cousin maybe has other problem in breathing not teeth. diet intake also important you care about that...

Yea i understand ur feelings. U said u visited a dentist . So there is no doubt that there is no decay , gingivitis, mouth ulcer nothing. Drooling of saliva at night is absolutly normal. Everybody experiences that. In some persons it is more. I dont think there is any treatment for this.

Bad breath could be also caused by digestive problems. See a gastroenterologist.
Now, for the drooling too much problem, I would go to an otolaryngologist (ENT-Ear Nose Throat).

remember that bad breath can be caused by a lot of things like lack of oral hygiene, dirty mouth, eating a garlicky meal, dry mouth, medications, smoking, gum disease and stomach related problems. to determine the cause, you need to speak to the dentist to get appropriate treatments.

the key to have fresh breath is to keep up and maintain good oral health through having a good program of good oral hygiene. for more tips on how to beat bad breath visit http://www.themouthdoctor.com
