What is the best mouth wash for braces or on the market?!

Question:

What is the best mouth wash for braces or on the market?

Answers:

With braces you at a higher risk of plaque getting caught around the brackets and causing decay. I have had patients that ended up with white squares on the teeth after the braces came off and ended up having white fillings to cover them. Not only does that cost money but it takes up your time too. So, if you aren't already using a prescription toothpaste (Prevident, GelKam etc) or rinse that was recommended by your orthodontist you should consider an over the counter fluoride rinse, like ACT, Fluorigard or generic brand (but it must say Fluoride). You simply rinse after you brush and floss and then don't eat or drink for a half hour or just go to bed. You should consider using a proxybrush under the wire and around the brackets too, it was my favorite tool when I had my braces. Hope that helps!
