Im getting crowns on my 6 front teeth today. Any info people can give me on crow!

Question: Do you like yours? Do they look good? Is this going to hurt me? I guess i could just ask my dentist, but who knows if theyre going to be 100% with me. I guess my biggest question is if its going to hurt me. Thanks everyone!

Ok, hopefully this answer will get to you before you have your crowns done. To answer the most important question is, NO it will most likely not hurt you. I have been in the dental industry for 12 years and to have straight forward crown procedures done are very simple and comfortable.
THe dentist will give you Novocaine which is a local anesthetic and will get the area numb. There is no need to be put under general anesthesia to go thru this, unless you are highly dental phobic. THe area is numb and comfortable and the dentist will trim down the circumference of the tooth to make room for the crown. TO add something, you must take away, whether you have had decay or old restorations, you must prepare the tooth, similar to a thimble in order to make room for the crown to fit like your natural tooth. Depending on how many you are having done, the preparation of the tooth usually runs anywhere from 10-25 mins then from there, they will take a impression of the teeth that were just prepared, this will give a negative to send to the lab to make your crowns. SOme offices are doing in-office crowns called Cerec, they do not require taken an impression and lab work, they can scan the tooth in the computer using cad cam tech. and can make the crown in the office now. Either way, the crown will be made up of porcelain and maybe some metal as a base.
If an impression is taken, the dentist will make temp. crowns to go over the prepared teeth that is made up of an acrylic to get you by until the permanent ones are made.
Overall, the most that I have ever heard was that some people feel some discomfort around the gum line where the teeth are prepped, if it is close enough, or some people may have some stiffness in their jaw from being in the chair for a bit. I have never had people come back to me and say that it was horrific and painful.
I hope this will ease your mind a bit and give you some comfort.
Also, crowns are made to last, if done properly, at least 25 years +++
The crowns are made to replace your teeth, so they should be comfortable and unnoticeable to you.
GOod luck and congrats on going through with the crowns, I am sure you will be very happy!!

It's going to suck. You should've brushed your teeth! Yes, it's going to hurt. Even if they put you under, you're probably going to feel nauseous afterwards.

All of my teeth are crowned. I only had one or two done at a time. I never had any pain with mine but I have world's world's greatest dentist. At least I think so. I have heard people say that they had pain after the Novocain wore off but I never did. Take a couple of Tylenol when you leave the office to keep swelling down. Good luck and I am sure you will love your crowns, I know I do.

Ask your dentist if you can go to the lab for a custom shade. Ask to see the crowns once they are back from the lab, before they are cemented in. They can try them in and if the shadeo or shape is not right ask for them to ne sent back to the lab. This should not cost you more! Also, a porcelain margin or all porcelain crowns might be good too. Ask your dentist to explain the options.
The dentist will get you good and numb, and you will have some discomfort along the gumline and maybe even the teeth after, but tylenol or advil type stuff will help that.
Don't worry about the temporary crowns, you wont have them forever.
