I need advice what to do about my dental work?!

Question:

I need advice what to do about my dental work?

First off, i have Mitro valve proplse. I was at my dentist a week ago today. The dentist told me i did't need antibiotics and i did have them all the other times i went to see him. Anyways, he grinded down my back molor and put a tempter tooth on it and filled two other ones in front of it. He gave me an appointment for three weeks to come back to his office to put the crown on. He told me to use Chlorhexidine Gluconate, Oral rinse. Well, I did as he said, Now i have three blistes on the corner of my mouth and on my face. My gums are sore and they did have white blisters on them and today i noticed there is red lines on my gums. Is that a sign of an inffection?

Answers:

My answer is in two parts:

1. As for the sores and gums...go to your dentist it is impossible to tell what is going on without actually seeing it. It could be anything from an allergy to the materials used to an abscessed tooth. So unfortunatley I might take a trip to the dentist

2. As for the premedication...the American heart association just as of last month released guidlines for the prevention of bacterial endocarditis (this is the condition the antibiotics are trying to prevent) for dental procedures. The new guidlines state that antibiotics should only be used in extreme situations such as prior history of endocarditis (the exact conditions are listed...go to the aha web-wite) MVP is not on the list (reguadrless of regurgitation). Some dentists are still nervous to follow these new guidlines because they have been premedicating for years. However, if all you needed was a crown and the margins didn't go below the gum line...then even according to the old guidelines you don't neeed premed...why?
Because in general terms premedication is only needed in procedures where bleeding is likey. A crown prep would not normally make you bleed unless it did go well below the gumline.
Hopefully this helps
Good Luck
