Yes, your orthodontist can switch your retainer, but it could cost you. I believe that the orthodontist will give you a retainer at no cost upon completion of your braces. If you switch the type of retainer, it could cost you or your parents, and we are not talking a few dollars either. Consult with your parents and orthodontist. Better to do it now if you know you will not wear your clear retainer, have your teeth shift and your parents very upset.
