ATTENTION DENTISTS What is a typical workday for a dentist?!
Question: I have to pick a career in school and I picked dentistry. Although I don't know what a typical workday is. How long do dentists work and how long do you have to go to university to gratuate from being a dentist? Please help me dentists! And tell me more about yourself...

Dentists see patients all day long and look into people's mouths all day long. It is tedious work and you drill teeth, fill the holes drilled with material packed in (fillings), you read x-rays and diagnose problems, you may pull out teeth. Many people are very stressed when they visit the dentist so you've got those emotions and fears to cope with. I have read that the highest suicide rate is with dentists and I believe it is because the work is so tedious, stressful, and I think many have some perfectionist streak in them.
I worked as a dental assistant for about one and a half years after 2 years of schooling and I didn't find working with dentists very pleasant nor the work and environment up my alley. I saw what they did though during the workday. I got out of the field to never return.

Lots of work. dealing with people and their mouths, but I guess the pays good.
You have to enjoy what you do. If you want to take care of people and make a good living doing it, dentistry is a great field.
If you are undecided I would suggest you visit with your dentist for a day and see what transpires in the office...
I have worked in dentistry for over 20 years and I love it although my favorite specialty is Orthodontics
I work for a private office which is usually a little different hour wise:
Mon, Wed, Fri 8-3
Tues, Thurs 8-5
