My daughters 6 year old molar coming in and the gums are not coming of the teeth!

Question:

My daughters 6 year old molar coming in and the gums are not coming of the teeth? Anyone heard of this??

My daughter's molars came in three months ago and her gums are still on top of her teeth. (Like a flap) Well now one side is infected and we went to the dentist. They put her on antibiotics and sent us on our way. The dentist says they will move off the gums in time? But it's been three months since they came in?? How are they going to move off now? Has anyone heard of this? My husband said this happened to him as a boy and his mom used floss to cut them off! Ahhh I am not doing that!!

Answers:

Either your first or only kid right? Just relax, the tooth will continue to move into place. This could take awhile, surely more than 3 months. Eventually the "flap" will lose it's blood supply and die. She will probably chew the "flap" off and swallow it while eating, and never realize it. I like the floss idea, probably a bit bloody and painful but it'd get the job done. Otherwise just wait and watch, you'll be looking at wisdom teeth and braces before too long.
