If you see pink on the inside part of a chipped tooth, then that's very deep. Chances are very high that you'll need a root canal, and then probably a crown.
My advice would be to get it done NOW, before the pain starts - believe me, there will be much less pain (maybe even no pain) if you treat it before the tooth starts to ache.
