I have a cavity...?!


Question:

I have a cavity...?

ok so say i have a cavity on my molar tooth....what will be done? will they put a crown on it?
i want whatever is done to be white...so that it's not really conspicious.

As a dentist I can tell you that depending on how deep the cavity is will effect the procedure your dentist performs. Your dentist will give you an injection of Lidocaine in your gum to block the nerve from feeling any pain, most patients compare the injection to that of a bee sting and a slight pinch. Your dentist will make sure that you are numb before he/she begins and then they will use a drill and clean out all parts of the decayed tooth, the dentist will then fill the tooth and "cure" the filling with an ultraviolet light to harden it. After the injection wears off you may feel some mild pain, if you experience this I recommend taking Motrin (Ibuprofen) as this will help relieve pain and help with any inflammation... a cold compress also works very well for mild pain. Good luck with your procedure, just take a deep breath and relax and everything will be fine.
