About my retainer?!

Question: I notice two things about my retainer:

One is, well, frankly is smells horrid after wearing it for a few hours. I rinse and brush it often, but i was still wondering if its natrual for it to smell this bad, this quickly? And i can't tell, but would this smell be carried on my breath? Its making me incredible selfconscience when talking to people.

and second is there is some white coloring on parts of the bottom retainer that doesnt come off with brushing. is this natrual too, or do i need something more than a tooth brush and toothpaste to get it off?

With mine i brush it every morning when i brush my teeth. Then when am using mouth wash I put it back in the retainer holder with just another mouth wash to cover it then shake it.Whee you put it in the holder when your not wearing it put just a tad bit of water in it to let it soak. And once a month i give it a deep clean.I either soak it in dencher cleaner or soak it in bleach then rinse it off.

For the white stuff on the bottom (it happens to mine to) just brush it really hard w/tooth paste .

Hopes it helps.

You need to be soaking your retainer every night. I think they told me to do it like once every couple of days or a couple times a week but believe me I was much happier when I soaked it every night. If you do this you dont even need to brush it with toothpaste. My ortho told me to use alkaseltzer or the kind they use for dentures. Get the mint one it is much better. You just put one of two tabs in some warm water and let them dissolve and then leave the retainers in the water overnight. Be sure to rinse them off before you put them back in your mouth. This will get all the germs off at night while you sleep. I am sure you already know this but make sure you brush your teeth or at least rinse with mouthwash after you eat and before you put your retainer back in. If you dont this could be what is making it smell really funky. I hope this helps! Good Luck!

let it soak in denters wash..it workss..then they will smelll much betterr

Well, it seems to me you have the plastic, invisalign type. These tend to accumlate smell and stuff. If you have these, You cannot soak in Denture Cleaner, they will turn yellow. You also can't brush with toothpaste. Get some Retainer Brite. And soak everyday or every dew days. The smell could be transferred to your teeth, so just carry breath mints or brush when you take the retainers off. Hope this helps
