If you are only getting braces to close the gap, you might want to consider bonding or veneers instead. I had a space and have done both procedures. The bonding was one for over 10 years before i lightened my teeth and had veneers put on. Both look very natural and the procedure was simple.
I worked in dental for many years and heard that most patients that had braces on the inside did not like them. The tongue gets too irritated for most people. However, there is Invisalign now which may be an option for you. It's a series of clear plastic retainers that move your teeth instead of brackets and bands.

Leave the gap. You'll be able to drink thru a straw without opening your mouth...

You most likely can.
