I think I have a abscess in my tooth, is a root canal unavoidable?!

Question: I'm going to call the dentist tomorrow but from what I've looked up online I'm almost positive I have a abscess on one of my bottom molar. Is the only option I really have is to go on antibiotics and then get a root canal after the antibiotics have cleaned out the infection?

I'm only 20 years old and don't have dental insurance, so I personally wouldn't want to get a root canal. Also, I never had my wisdom teeth removed, so could this be another possible cause to my abscess?

There is also something called a pulpotomy. It's a step before root canal... I've had one, and avoided getting a root canal.
Another option is just to get the tooth extracted. I've done that, too, with no problem missing a molar.
Wish you luck!

Hey, i think you should take an appointment to the dentist soon coz if abscess in your molar is not rectified/cured, the infection in it might spread to other teeth as well and the problem may become chronic. In many cases such abscess may weaken the roots of teeth, thereby causing tooth decay. Moreover, its not necessary that u will have to go thru root canal treatment (actually it will depend on the depth of the abscess) and its quite a possibility that abscess isn't that deep and thus in such case a mere amalgum/metal filling will work.
I, personally, don't think that the non-removal of wisdom teeth is the core cause of abscess in that molar.
Hope my words are of some help.
