Do braces hurt?? pLeAsE rEaD???!

Question: I'm getting braces in the summer, and I'm really nervous.. Do they hurt? Instead of just saying no, could you give a little paragraph on what happens and all that? Thank you! 5 stars to the best paragraph!

PS. What color should I get when I first get my braces on?

WEll i wont lie to you.. yes they did hurt but it was tolerable. They beginning is the hardest and longest.. Each month when you go into the office.. you will get them tightned and even have the bands changed and then for a few days after you are in pain like.. someone is SQUEZZING your teeth together. Usually a 2-3 days curing period. SOme orthos give some medication. but I always just took some advil. I will warn you to eat before your appointments each month.. becasue you wont want to or CAN eat for a few days after. Also take CHAPSTICK or vaseline with you because all that stretching they do at the office makes your lips sooo chapped and dry and sometimes bleed. As far as color.. I wold get regular first to get used to them then go for your favorite color .. or whatever season is LOL> THANKS I HOPE I GET BEST ANSWER!!

I had braces from age 12 to 15. The only time they hurt me was when I initially had them put on, and every time I would have them tightened. My mouth was extremely sore for about 2 days after each tightening, and it was very hard to eat during that time. I also wouldn't wear my rubber-bands as instructed, because they made the teeth that they connect to/from hurt, so I didn't wear them. Although I was in discomfort after tightening and such, taking Tylenol or Ibuprofen helped a lot, and it wasn't excruciating pain; just soreness. Having braces isn't traumatizing, and you will be so thankful for getting them when you have them taken off! I had a big overbite when I got mine from sucking my thumb as a baby and toddler, and my teeth were beautiful after having braces! Good luck!

they don't hurt right away but when u wake up the next day it hurts so much that u cant eat that good... but in like a week or so yur teeth will be okay until u tighten it again...im getting my braces off next month =D

Like the first couple of days it REALLY HURTS!!!!
but after that not so much
the only time it ever hurts again is when you get them tightened but thats about it.
You shud get rainbow colors!!!
Thats what I did and I got lots of comments from my friends you know and they were like, "hey, why didnt i think of that?"
ya its worth it tho lol this is really long

Yes they hurt everytime you get them tightened. But only for a day or so. Take some tylenol and you'll be fine. This only happens once a month. And the hurt isn't really that bad ~ it's like a toothache in yuor whole mouth.

Get a calm color ~ not florescents yet. You don't want to scream I GOT BRACES. Get use to them first.

Yes, they'll feel a little sore, and you won't be able to eat anything solid (without any pain) for 2 or 3 days, after that, you won't even notice you've got them on, when you go to get them tightened, they won't hurt anywhere near much as they will the first time. Silver, they'll blend in with the braces. I've never had HEADGEAR before, I REALLY DOUBT you'll have ANY.

E-mail (or IM) me anytime if you've got any more questions :)

I hope I helped!! :-D oops, i mean :-B, lol.

I have heard they hurt...Good luck!

I got braces after I was in my twenties. Back then, you could only get steel and only on the front of your teeth. Now you can get braces that are plastic, and come in lots of colors, including clear plastic that you can hardly see after you step back a couple of steps. Depending on the condition of your teeth, it might also be possible to put the braces on the inside where they would not be visible at all. If you are worried about how they look, you should ask your orthodontist about putting them inside.
As for hurting, I don't remember mine hurting, but they do apply pressure at certain points on your teeth; and I was always aware of the pressure. You should also expect to brush your teeth way more than you ever have before.
