Which teeth need to be extracted to have an upper brace fitted - first molar or !

Question: It depends on whether or not any of your teeth are filled or carious. Teeth of poor prognosis are often taken out to create space. First molars are never the extraction of choice but if these teeth have a poor long term prognosis then your orthodontist will take these out.

First or second premolars are more commonly taken out but it depends on how much space is needed. Depending on your jaw relationship different teeth may be taken out on the top and bottom or teeth may only be taken from one arch.

Thats the best answer I can give without seeing your teeth. There is no set pattern for orthodontic treatment as there are too many variables.

the first molars at the front

own experience

what?It depends on which teeth are affected, how are we supposed to know?

It probably doesn't matter - my daughter's dentist made a mistake and took out the first from the left side and the second from the right side.
In the end, her orthodontist said it didn't make much difference, it just meant she had to have her braces a bit longer as one tooth had to be moved further.
We did complain about the dentist, btw!

Your dentist will determine that when they exray your teeth.
It could be either one.

its all to do with what movements need to be made and where your teeth are now. sometimes no teeth need to be taken out. every case is individual

My sister had braces on her upper and lower sets of teeth and they're practically perfect now. She didn't have to have any teeth removed though. Obviously, some people would, depending on their situation, but I didn't realise that it was a given. Although, that was almost 10 years ago and in the US. Maybe standard procedure has changed!

Normally, first premolars are extracted b/c they have deep grooves on the root that are more likely to cause gum disease problems in the future. So, these are normally removed to make room unless the second premolars have a large cavity that makes them need to be removed instead.

both upper 1st molars right and left side to be extracted .

Children- teeth C and H
Adults- teeth 5 and 12.

usually.

Teeth dont necessary have to be removed there is a procedure called arch expansion which is a special appliance that is worn before fixed appliances (traintracks) are placed you would have to talk to your dentist about it or as to be refered to an orthodontist look on the web for further info
