Which kind of braces should I get???!

Question: I'm trying to decide between colourful braces and clear ones... I might be leaning a BIT towards clear ones because they're not as easy to see, but I need other opinions.

Thanks!!! :)

How old are you? Different ages are more likely to have different kinds of braces.

If you're a kid or a teen (any age below 18), I would go for traditional metal braces. It is very common for children and teens to get metal braces, and is more acceptable in society (if you're worried about that at all). They are often much cheaper, and move your teeth faster than clear or ceramics. They don't stain, and you can pick colorful ligatures (rubber bands that fit around the bracket).

If you're an adult, consider ceramic or clear braces. They are more expensive and take a bit longer, but they'll be much less noticeable. You can still have colored bands (unless you have Invisalign-type clear braces), but I don't see much of a point having that type if you're getting colored bands. Ceramics and clear braces sometimes crack or just don't come off clean during removal of the braces. I've also heard that they are harder to remove.

Also consider lingual or self-ligating braces. Some Orthodontists don't offer these types, so check in with yours. Lingual braces are metal, but are applied to the back of the teeth. They are invisible to other people, unless you show them. I'm not quite sure how fast they move your teeth, but I'm sure it's about the same as traditional braces. Self-ligating braces are metal and are applied to the front surface of the tooth. They require less appointments and often times move your teeth faster than traditional metal braces. However, they are more expensive. Self-ligating braces have sliding "doors" that allows your orthodontist to change the wires, and are shut afterwards. The doors act as ligatures and hold the wire in place while applying pressure.

Talk with your orthodontist and find out what option is best for your individual needs.

Good luck!

when i got braces i chose the clear ones. theyre not too noticeable which was a good thing :)

good luckkkk(:

Do you mean between metal and clear? I heard metal ones work better. If you're talking about the ligatures (the little plastic thingies they put on your brackets), they change them once a month or so, so try one this month and the other next month. I have done clear ligatures, but I normally do the colorful ones.

I have the clear ceramic braces and if I could do over I would've got all metal. I've got clear on top and metal on bottom and there isn't much of a difference, you can still see them and if I eat or drink anything red then the ceramic on my braces get that color so I have to brush immediately and if I wear lipstick it also gets on them. The clear ones are more money and are not as strong as the clear ones, they break much easier. Good Luck :-)

well if you are old and and have work you can use the clear one even that you have to know that there wire will bee shown on your teeth
the clear one is more esthetic than the metal but with time the elastic will be staind and become brown and it will show your teeth as if they dirty
need my personal advice
if you dont have to use the clear one for good reason
use the one with metal its cheeper and you preform orthodontic procuder wich is somthing nice and not somthing you have to hide
hope i help you with this issue

oh plx dont get the clear. i did and that was was th ebiggest dental mistake i ever made and belive me i have made many!

reason 1:staining...you cant wear lipstick eat or drink anything with dye.and if you do you will pay for it later.

reason 2: they dont work as well.they pull less on your teeth and since i had braces twice i choose the metal the second time and it was the same orthodontists but diff. braces i dont know what it is but the metal just pull more and the clear did not give me the same results.i was very pleased with the metal outcome and belive me in the long run its worth it. actually the clear may not be noticable at first when you get them but within a week they stain right up and there for are more noticable then metal and quite frankly it makes it look like you have not brushed you teeth in a while even though you did!
NO, brushing does not get all the stains out!

reason : BREAKABLE...please remember that!
they break so easily compared to the metal!

ok, well i really hope this helped b/c i went throught the same experiance twice and learned from all the reasons i stated above that METAL BRACES ARE BETTER and are not that much more noticable then the clear and are more expensive for no reason only to have less satisfing results in the long run.

PLEASE take my advice and get the metal ones!
Please :-]

I have coloured braces and i find that people dont notice them as much as my friend who has clear braces because her's make her teeth look yellow. Yes mine are totally obvious but people dont notice whereas her's aren't quite as obvious and she has noticed people staring at her teeth because they're not sure if they're just yellow or she has braces!!

do not get clear ones yes u can't see them but everytuhing u eat gets stuck there and u look stupid and i would get the colorful ones because it's fun to pick new colors everytime u go to the dentist.

The thing you dont know about the clear brackets is that they will take longer to move your teeth, sometimes extending your treatment time for 6 months to a year. And clear brackets are noticable too, you can still see them, they are not invisible, and in some instances, actually make your teeth look akward. I had your same choice, I am 22 and they acutally started to put on the clear ones and I had to stop them and tell them to put on the metal ones. I would rather shorten the time I have them than have slightly visible ones! Good Luck!
