Swollen? What is my problem?!

Question:

Swollen? What is my problem?

I am a diabetic, and I am taken medicine for it. I am overweight and need to work on that. I had an abscessed tooth twice, and once had to get it treated from the hospital.. the abscessed tooth caused my face to be swollen and get Lock Jaw. It gotten to the point I could not get my own fingers into my mouth.. well I should be fine now and all should be going better, but now I got a situation.....the left side of my lips, (the same side as he infection I had) is swollen again. Docors say I don't show any cavities since they pulled the ones that were cavities. It's just swollen for no major reason..or is there??? You help me decide what it is. please. Thanks

Answers:

Did u get your teeth cleaned also? Diabetics who do not maintain dental care, especially dental cleanings have more problems w/ their diabetes. Infections are dangerous, but not being up to date on cleanings can cause periodontal disease usually and people w/ diabetes are at an increased risk. Periodontal disease in a diabetic person can actually agrivate your diabetes, causing increased glucose levels. People w/ healthy mouths that are diabetic show decreased glucose levels and often need less doses of medicines to treat diabetes. Also, if your diabetes is not well controlled this means your immune system is so busy dealing w/ that problem that it does not have time to do its normal duties in the mouth. Increasing your problems in your mouth, even if they would not cause troubles in other people who do not have diabetes.
