So my tooth has a bad infection - left side of face completely blown up?!

Question:

So my tooth has a bad infection - left side of face completely blown up?

Well i had a root canal about 2 years ago and ever since this one tooth has jsut started decaying slowly..and all of the filling finally came out on thursday (its monday morning) went to the dentist on friday because i could no longer take the agonizing pain..he said i have a horrible infection an gave me antibiotics (clarymycin ??) and ever since friday nite-saturday morning..the left side of my face is completely swollen up and hasnt went down..im not sure whether to go to the emergency room or what..im still getting the pain if i dont take the ibuprofen 800 every few hours..i thought the ibuprofen would have reduced the swelling but nothing has worked..should i just go to the ER..or should i just finish out the antibiotics and wait for the swelling to go down on its own..

Answers:

I think you should at least call the dentist or medical centre and ask - sounds like you should do something about it if it started swelling up and the doctor didn't say this could happen and not to worry. Maybe the swelling is infection or some other cause that pain killers cannot help. Good luck. It is your body and if in doubt, I think find out - might be nothing, but at least you will know. Maybe you need different antibiotics and it will not get better until you do. Either way, it is your head too, and I think a good idea not to mess about with that. Hope it gets better soon.
