Getting Braces!!?

I am an adult that is going to get braces put on my teeth. I go today to put spacers in between my teeth and then two weeks later will go back and get the braces on. My question is how much does it hurt to have all this done? Is it a major pain or just a pain that is there for a while and then you don't notice it? Kind of scared, never had this done, but watch my kid have it done to him. He complained about his mouth hurting and all. Some advice would help. Thanks!

I got braces at the age of 22.Yes it is painful.The spacers will make your teeth sore for a few days and the braces will make your mouth sore for a few days also.It is tolerable though.My best advice is that when you get the spacers on and when they adjust the braces is to go eat something such as a steak that needs alot of chewing right after the adjustments.This seemed to cut down on the soreness.Also,when you first get your braces use the wax they will give you on anyplaces that rub.This will cut down on the mouth sores.It is somewhat painful to get braces but so worth it when its over when you have a beautiful smile.Good luck to you and happy smiling.
