How do you test toothpaste for abrasiveness?!

Wow, that's a hard one. I'm a dental assistant, but I doubt I could help much. But, I'll try.
How about getting something like scratch-off type tickets. Any kind will do. You know what i mean? Like lottery tickets, except I think at craft-type stores or party stores you can get cheapy things. Then try the tootpastes on them using only a Q-tip to rub it on.
See which one rubs off more, using the same amount of strokes on each one, and the same amount of pressure.
Not sure if this will work, but it's an idea. Also, note that any toothpaste recommended by the ADA won't have much abrasive power. That's actually bad for the teeth. Good luck!

It might also help to call toothpaste manufacturers. I've dealt with Proctor and Gamble before with a school project many many years ago and they were quite helpful in sending out chemical information of their product. (Crest toothpaste). The manufacturers will know the exact composition of their toothpaste, so maybe that would be helpful too.
