Retainer quiestionnn??!

Question:

Retainer quiestionnn??

iv'e got a retainer that iv had since iv had my braces out, its seethrough at the top with metal bits that go on my back teeth on the top and a metal line going along the front, does it actually help push my teeth back? cos iv'e been wearing it for about 5 days and i can actually see a diffrence, but evreyones saying a retainer is just to "retain" teeth?

Answers:

It depends what the retainer is for. If you just got your braces off, maybe the orthodontist wanted to move some teeth still, and tightened the retainer to do this, or maybe the retainer was not adjusted right and is to tight, that you see a difference in your teeth from over tightening. I would ask your orthodontist, what stage are you in with your treatment and have him explain this to you. If your teeth are moving from having your retainer in to tight, pushing your teeth back farther, you''ll have to take a step back in your treatment. When you received your retainer did the Dr. do any adjustments? Not every retainer fits perfect when its fitted on. There is most always, adjustments to the retainers after fitting them. Please just follow the Dr.s suggestions and it is very important for the first year to wear those retainers all the time, not just at night but all the time until "your" orthodontists tells you other wise. Remember we are just giving you advice and it's important that you only use the advice of your orthodontist o.k. Good Luck hon!
