Tramadol for a toothache?!

Question: For the past fre months my teeth have been getting worse. Not only do I have cavities, but I broke a tooth from grinding my teeth in my sleep. I've been taking ibuprofen for months, and now I'm immune to it. I can't get a dentist appointment until March and in the meantime I am taking percocet (not prescribed to me, left over for my wife) but it's not doing anything for long. I am in so much pain that I am crying half of the day. My wife also had tramadol for for a back injury, can I use this? Will it help any better? I think I have an abcess, but again, I can't go to the dentist for a month, and I can't afford to just go to a different one. Please help, I can't do this anymore. Please don't give me a lecture about prescription medications, I just need some relief.

Just some basic information. Tramadol (Ultracet) is used for moderate pain. Percocet is a stronger pain killer.

Emergency rooms are not equipped with dentists. The most they can do for you is prescribe other pain killers and an antibiotic for inflammation of abscesses.

I'm surprised that your dentist does not have any "emergency" time available. I'd call them again and explain the intense pain that you're experiencing. If they can't accommodate you any sooner than next month, then you really should look for a dentist that has more time available for emergencies.

My sister had the same problem. She took tramadol for hers, and it seemed to help her till she could get to the dentist. I would go to the ER if I were you. An abscess can be dangerous, and I know how painful it is. At least they could help you until march, thats a long time to suffer!! Hope you feel better :)
