Will a rotten tooth affect my other teeth?!

Question:

Will a rotten tooth affect my other teeth?

I'm terrified of dentists after a bad experience and haven't been to one in about 10 years. One of my top back molars is rotting (part of the top half is gone, creating a "cave" in my tooth to my gum), and it has been this way for awhile now. I get a toothache in the surrounding teeth every now and then but nothing major. Will this tooth just eventually fall out on it's own or will it cause my other teeth to rot?

Answers:

Yes it can. But also oral health is part of OVERALL health. If you have a decayed tooth an infection can start and spread in jaw and even cause death if left untreated. See a dentist ASAP. You have no reason to be fearful. They dont want to hurt you. They will use pain medicine to numb your teeth so you wont feel any pain. It will not just fall out of its own. it will get worse and could lead to death.
