Lump on roof of mouth which doesn't hurt?!

Question:

Lump on roof of mouth which doesn't hurt?

I have had a lump on the roof of my mouth for about 4 days now that doesn't have any feeling in it. It feels kinda like a non-painful zit inside my mouth. Is this anything to be worried about? Just quit smoking after 1 1/2 years....am I just being a hypchondriac?

Answers:

First of all, good job on quitting smoking - you are doing yourself, your mouth, your lungs and wallet a major favor. It is interesting that you have this lump as I have one that comes and goes (also on the roof of my mouth) and have not found a cause as of yet. I think that mine is hormonal related or a blocked salivary duct. As a hygienist (although I think it is probably ok) I would still recommend you have it checked out. You probably want to have a professional cleaning and exam to get rid of any build up or stain now that you are done smoking as well. When I do an oral cancer exam I am most concerned when I see a lesion that is either red, white or blue. So get it checked and good luck!
