Difference to dark tooth after root canal?!

Question:

Difference to dark tooth after root canal?

Im getting root canal treatment on my front tooth this week. I know that a tooth generally darkens after root canal treatment, but the tooth has already slightly darkened. When the dentist cleans out the inside of the tooth, will it make any difference to the colour at the moment?

Answers:

The tooth, unfortunately, will not change back to its normal shade. And over time will continue to darken. There's no blood supply left in the tooth therefore the tooth is essentially dead. Be sure to have a crown placed in the near future. After root canal therapy, the tooth is very brittle and could possible break, especially a front tooth (they're so much thinner than a molar). I'm sure your dentist will pick a shade for the crown that will match beautifully with your natural teeth. Good luck, and let us know how it goes.
