Will this gap go away?

i had braces for about 3 years, and i got them off a while ago. and i was supposed to wear my retainer but i neglected to do that.
before i got my braces i had to pull two of my teeth out of my bottom jaw..
now theres a medium sized gap where the tooth was pulled
the other side is fine
if i wear my retainer will it go away??

plus my retainer pokes the gums and it hurts alot :(

i dont think your retainer is supposed to hurt....it just holds your 'newly corrected teeth' in place...since teeth are always shifting, no matter how old you are, if you wear your retainer it should gradually get better. it might take a while because retainers are really meant to hold your teeth in place, not to move them. you should go get a retainer check up at your orthodonist. the pain is not something i thought was common with retainers.
