I don' t think it would be possible. I'm a dentist and it is hard enough for me to do it sometimes with all my specialized tools and training. I think someone attempting this would probably end up with a combination of:
nerve damage
uncontrolled bleeding
severe infection
broken jaw

I think self-appendectomy would probably be easier. At least you would be able to look down and see what you were doing.

ouch

please do not attempt such a thing as you may hurt yourself and possibly do irrerversible permanate nerve damage to your lower jaw and will cause it to be paralyzed "loss of muscle funtion" to half ur face!!! and if u leave a root tip in ur gums u may end up with a very bad infection!!! either way u'll end up in the hospital. anyways take good care of yourself and don't cause your loves any unnesessary heartache and worry! take care!

Well, there's my neighbor's father in law. Some people want to get rid of the aching tooth rather than pay money to save it. The dentist wouldn't cooperate so he went into the washroom at work, pounded the side of his face, wiggled the tooth and eventually it came out. My neighbor knew what he was doing and saw him come out with a bloody mouth.

The Amish are good for this, too. Dentists want to save the teeth, but the Amish (who must not be prideful) want to show off a new set of choppers. So they don't want to spend to fix them, but want them pulled as they go bad so they can get false teeth. Really, I'm not kidding. Every now and then the authorities pick up an Amish "dentist" for practicing medicine without a license. He has tools to pull teeth and a bottle of whiskey.

What do you think happened a century ago when a tooth hurt? People figured out it was better to have it pulled than to live with the pain. Then it healed, usually with few complications. It just happened, like going bald. A wisdom tooth would be a lot harder being all the way in the back, but I'd like to know how long people have had wisdom teeth compared to how long dentists have seen a need to extract them. I won't claim it's totally unnecessary since our mouths are evolving smaller due to more nutrient rich food but it's like tonsillectomies, isn't it? I know a woman who had her tonsils removed in the '30s because they thought she was too thin. It didn't help her gain weight. In the '50s, a dentist extracted one of her teeth that had a cavity...he said he couldn't work on it because she was pregnant. It isn't like dentistry doesn't have its fads, you know. Like tonsillectomies, wisdom tooth extractions are profitable. Tonsillectomies were curtailed when somebody examined the mortality rate and saw that there were consequences to cutting so close to the arteries in the neck. If they nicked one, you died. No such worries with tooth extractions however, and how can you argue that it isn't necessary when they tell you that it is?

A mallet, a chisel and a pair of pliers. Pass him the bottle.
