Toothache And Now Swollen Lip!?!?!

Question:

Toothache And Now Swollen Lip!?!?

Ok, so when I was younger, I chipped one of my front teeth. A few years later, the dentist gave my a filling at the back of my two front teeth, and last year he re-did the filling. I was told I will have a crown or something put on when Im 16. So anyway, yesterday I started getting toothache in one of my two front teeth, it would be the right one to me. I put ice on it on the last night, straight onto the tooth, I ate it and put it against my tooth. I woke up at like 3 this morning and couldnt sleep, I thought the ache would have gone by then but it hadn't, so I wrapped some ice in a towel and put it on my mouth and straight onto the tooth. I went back to bed at 5, and woke up at 11, and my mouth and lips situated near that tooth, so the right side of my mouth, at the top, felt numb. The same feeling you get when you have a numbing needle at the dentist. My mum also commented that the numbed part of my mouth was swollen. I would like to get the swelling down and an idea of wot it is?!?

Its not a huge swelling but when you compare the two sides of the top part of my mouth , you can tell that it has swollen a bit. Also like I said, the numbing sensation is like having a numbing needle. Also, it feels numb but I still have feeling there.

But when I did put ice on it, the pain seemed to go for like 10 seconds.

Will ice help the swelling go down?

Just from the description you gave, I would guess the dentist did some form of a root canal and then put a filling in the tooth to close it up. If he did not seal the canal, but just removed the nerve, that would not be enough to keep infection from occurring. You need a root canal most likely, but first you need some antibiotic to get the infection down so the tooth can be anesthetized properly. Call a dentist today, the pain and swelling will only get worse.

If the ice did not hurt your tooth, it is a dead or dying tooth. Normally a live tooth would be hypersensitive to ice being placed on it.
