Answers:

It may be an abcess, or you may have a bit of something tiny that has slipped underneath the gumline there causing trouble. The best thing you can do until you can see a dentist is to continue to brush, floss and rinse with an antiseptic mouthwash. If it is an abcess, you will need to have antibiotics and some dental treatment to prevent damage to the teeth. If it is a bit of irritating something, brushing and flossing may remove it for you and eliminate the problem. You can take something like Tylenol or Motrin for the discomfort, or even use a toothache gel to help if needed. It's not anything to be scared of, nothing major that can't be taken care of no matter what it is. Just do good dental care and get to the dentist as soon as you can.
