Root Canal-Pain last how long?!

Question:

Root Canal-Pain last how long?

Hey, my mom just got a root canal yesterday and it still hurts the next day afterward. She ate like a lot of excedrin for the pain to go away but it isn't working. Does anyone know how long the pain will last and what she can do to ease the pain?

Answers:

Your mother should call the dentist that treated her tooth. It is not unusual to have discomfort after rooth canal therapy, especially if the tooth had an infection at the root. Excedrin will not do the trick.
She needs, if she can take it, an anti-inflammatory drug like motrin. We give our patients a dosage of 800mg (that's 4 of the over the counter pills) when we treat a root canal. Also, we usually give an antibiotic and a very strong pain medicine.
So before any more time has passed, have your mother contact her dentist and tell him/her that she needs more comprehensive medication for her pain management.
