I might have dry socket does it cause the area to feel dry?!

Question:

I might have dry socket does it cause the area to feel dry?

I have recently had my wisdom teeth removed, And now believe I have dry socket. I had one impacted wisdom tooth and it's been about 2 weeks yesterday the area started to feel dry with a slight dull throb, is this dry socket and if so should the area seem dry inthe back of my mouth ?

Answers:

I agree it is not a dry socket. That happens sooner than 2 weeks. What possibly is happening is you are not keeping the area around the extraction site or adjacent teeth clean enough because you are trying to be "too careful". Plaque is acid and it will keep any tissue unhealthy, especially newly healing tissue. Brush with a very soft brush or rub the site with a washcloth. Rinse with warm salt water and really hold it in that area for several seconds. Do not rinse with plain water after. Floss any teeth that are in the area of the extraction. Not just the tooth, but also deep in the gum behind your second molar. It will bleed and most likely be very sore. It will take a few days to start getting better. Keeping the plaque levels down around your teeth is an everyday ongoing event. You don't just floss for a few days and expect it to stay healthy. Take some ibuprofen for a few days. That will take the throb away.
