Foods to eat through straw?!

Question:

Foods to eat through straw?

I recently had a retainer put on, and I can't eat solid anything as it will get stuck on the retainer and basket that is on the roof of my mouth. So I need ideas for foods I can suck through a straw. I have no problem actually chewing the food up with my teeth, but once it tries to go towards the back of my mouth, it gets stuck on the retainer since it pretty much covers the whole roof of my mouth. And that's just too much for me to deal with.

Soup I can eat, but some of the noodles do get stuck up there, but it's not as hard as other foods. I'll probably just stick to broth though.

Currently I am drinking protein shakes, applesauce, yogurt smoothies through a straw.

Any other ideas for foods I could eat/suck through a straw? I really hate to stay on the liquid diet, but my ortho wants me to try and stick it out til the weekend and if I am having trouble eating still.. then they're going to see if there's another type of retainer I can wear that's removeable since this is glued in.

Answers:

You can blend up some awesome straw food. When I was 16, I had an operation where they cut pieces out of my lower jaw, and slid it back. Then they cut my upper out and slid it forward. They got rid of my underbite. I had my jaws wired shut for 2 months. I used to put cooked turnips and cheeze whiz into a blender, with a little milk. MMM good! I think the best was barbecued steak and mashed potatoes. I also did a Big Mac and fries. Good luck, and Bon Apetit!
