My daughter has bad breath.. Even after she brushes it still smells a little..?!

Question: When she brushes I am always sure to tell her to brush her tounge, sometimes I do it for her. Because the the tounge is what really carries the odor.. Are there ANY solutions..Could this be a gastric internal problem or something? Is she not eating the right foods. What can I do?

Hi there,

Bad Breath In Children

All of the causes and symptoms of bad breath that we have also applies to children. However, there are other concerns. Bad breath is very common among children. The most predominant cause of bad breath in children is breathing through the mouth.

Mouth breathing causes the mouth to dry out. A dry mouth provides a perfect environment for the bacteria that causes bad breath to grow.

Dry mouth is the main cause of bad breath in both children and adults. Children tend to breath through their mouth more often than adults and appear to have more instances of colds, allergies, sinus infections and other nose and ear problems.

A child who sucks their thumb or blanket can also dry out the mouth. Older children who smoke or use alcohol also set themselves up for dry mouth.

Nasal blockage is also a frequent cause of bad breath in toddlers. Toddlers will often poke items up their noses and then forget they are there. If you observe bad breath and/or a smelly discharge from one nostril you need to contact your GP and asked to be referred to a pediatrician for immediate treatment.

Good Luck!

take apple sinder vinegar and wild honey, oral mouth wash, listerine

She could have a rotten tooth, is she young? Maybe try gently flossing between her teeth.
She might also have some other dental or gum problem, I know a few cause bad breath, take her to a dentist or an orthodontist.

It could be a digestive problem. It could be a sinus problem. It could be an underlying dental problem. It's difficult to say without having examined her! Your best plan is to have her seen by a dentist and then - if that reveals nothing - to have her examined by your GP.

it is calles hallitosis is tretable go to your doctor.

pull her tounge out and scrub it with a toilet brush

I have tried every product I can find. Nothing curbs my bad breath... I do the atkins diet and they tell me to expect an odor which is natural. I can't change diets due to a gastric by pass. I still use the products if I didn't life would be worse.

Sometimes its not your mouth its your stomach. The smell comes upward let a doctor see her or Give her rose water its safe don't worry. The rose water which you will find in middle eastern stores is roses that have been boiled and the steam of the petals are dropped in bottles she will smell good. But if your daughter is old enough the best thing to kill germs making this odor in her mouth would be garlic. Feed her some in her food it will kill alot of germs. Good luck.

since it still smells after brushing it sounds like the culprit could be tiny food particles that collect in the back and sides of throat, in the little pockets and crevices..they form the stinkiest little balls. (check out google images)
Vigorously gargling warm water can help dislodge them...a waterpik is helpful too

~it could be a gastro problem...but I would look into this first
good luck!

Avoid Onion, ginger etc at night times.
Brush twice a day.
Give Apple at Night.
This will surely avoid.

Is she is going out in the morning give her a good mouth freshner.

Does she still have her tonsils? They can cause bad breath. She doesn't necessarily have to have a sore throat. They have lots of crevices that can trap bacteria & food particles which cause foul odors.

go back to the dentist

She could have a cold

try a mouth wash called corsodyl it is good .

rinse with hydrogen peroxide, being sure not to swallow it. if it is a somewhat fruity smell it could be diabetes. have her checked for this if odor is fruity smelling.

Maybe she should change her diet, bad breath is gross
