I have a tooth that may need a root canal. Why doesn't the dentist want to just !

Question:

I have a tooth that may need a root canal. Why doesn't the dentist want to just pull the tooth?

I don't want to get a root canal and crown. I know several people who've had a lot of problems getting that kind of work done on their teeth. So why didn't the dentist recommend extraction? It is a tooth towards the back of my mouth, but not a back tooth. Maybe 3rd to the back. I just think it would be less pain in the long run to get it pulled. Any thoughts on this?

Answers:

Root canals are much more profitable.
