Do dentists over prescribe braces?!

Question: My daughter's dentist told me when she was 7 that she will need braces. Her teeth were wild. Her overbite was very very pronounced. We didn't get them, cause she hadn't lost all her baby teeth yet. Now she's almost 10 and her teeth are beautiful. They aren't perfect yet, but in 3 years they have changed so much. They are straight and she still has a slight overbite and a minor gap. In 3 more years do you think they'll look even better without braces. As a child mine were horrrible crooked. I never got braces and now they are very straight.

Where is your question

It does depend... the best phase to easily, completely and with less expense correct ortodontic problems is between 7 ans 12 years.

Maybe he was wrong, but maybe not, as at 10 she still has 4 teeth to erupt yet on each side... if he was right and there is not enough space, you will only see the problem when those teeth will erupt in her mouth... You know that adult teeth are bigger than baby teeth right? also a child has 20 teeth as an adult has 32... so there is definitely a frequent problem with missing space...

Normaly a dentist should not overprescribe this... he does things that are required and not to replace her teeth at 7... its only to guide her growth to make sure there wont be space missing for her adult teeth to take place.

When my oldest got her braces it seemed like the next dental visit for my younger child they were talking about her needing braces as well once she was older. Personally, I don't think either needed them.
